Teachers

Ricardo Rodrigues Ambrózio

Born in the south of Brazil, Ricardo lived in Rio de Janeiro, where he had the opportunity to experience the best and the worst of  Brazilian culture and day-to-day life.  At the age of six he started to practice Capoeia, with 13 he started street dancing and participated in competitions, until he got in touch with Flavia Tapias at the age of 16, following her as a student and assistant.

During this time he got more and more in touch with the culture of northeast of Brazil trough the teachers Davi Mico Preto and Rafael Baere from the Company Forró nas Alturas. Fascinated by forró, he continued his studies with José Carlos Valverde and travelled around Brazil searching for the similarities and differences between regional styles of forró.

Starting from August 2014 he invests all his time and energy in his own creations and collaborations. His own forro project: Forro Calango and the festival Forrómania are amongst these. After living forro  for 20 years, teaching for 16 years all over europe, he currently returns to Portugal to produce Forrómania.

Contemporary dancer and Forró teacher Ricardo developed a style based on contact dance in order to improve your connection with the body, trust in your partner and leading abilities…

Elsa Saurel

Dancer, art therapist and teacher.

Elsa literally fell for contact improvisation in 2010.  Since then, she didn’t stop to be inspired by this dance, to explore it and to adapt it to share it with a maximum of people (particularly with somewhat extraordinary crowds). Together with Anne Expert and Alex Guex she developed a somatic approach to the body in motion, throughout her career. Besides, she worked intensely on improvisation and performance with Christine Blanchard and Emmanuel Grivet.

She learned contact improvisation by crossing the path of many teachers, like Isabelle Uski, Jorg Hassman, Matthieu Gaudeau… Whom she invites to come and teach in Toulouse and/ meets at festivals.

Miguel Gramontain

Accordionist since his childhood, he crossed folk music on the diatonic accordion. In improvisation, Miguel discovered the freedom to play on the chromatic accordion. No matter the melody, the chords and the style, the most important thing in music is the groove! At the FIF he will give a workshop on the basics of improvisation to a Forró song. Come and make your instrument groove with minimalistic musique. We will work on the chords and the base line of one song. And we will practice improvisation, accompanied by the others.
